& How Stress Affects You

Dealing with chronic stress throughout your daily life can come with a variety of health-related issues. According to Mayo Clinic (2023), Stress has negative affects on both the body and the mind, causing issues ranging from simple fatigue all the way to cardiovascular disease and memory loss. The Body

Stress plays a major role in the body and it's ability to perform. When an individual undergoes stress, especially for long periods of time, this can come with a slew of adverse side-effects. Stress places you at a higher risk for developing health problems such as muscle pain, fatigue, heart weakness, cardiovascular disease, and a weakened immune system. (Mayo Clinic, 2023)

According to a study done by Satyjeet in 2020, individuals were at a greater risk of a heart attack if they were stressed (social isolation, marital stress, work stress, childhood abuse, trauma) compared to those with less or no stress.

The Mind

Up-to-date science also suggests that stress has a major impact on memory consolidation and brain fog. The brain houses the hippocampus, responsible for the learning of new information and the retention of memories. The hippocampus is also highly susceptible to stress. Short-term stress can help in retaining memories, while chronic stress can actually deteriorate the neurons within the hippocampus, causing symptoms like memory loss, anxiety, sleeping issues, and brain fog.
